Background of the Study
Facebook group discussions in Nigeria represent a microcosm of digital language use, where users engage in extended, multifaceted conversations. This study evaluates language use within these groups by examining vocabulary, syntax, pragmatics, and discourse strategies. Nigerian Facebook groups provide rich data on how users negotiate meaning, form collective identities, and adapt to the digital medium’s affordances (Uche, 2023). Language in these discussions is characterized by a blend of formal and informal registers, code-switching, and creative lexical innovations. These features not only reflect cultural and social diversity but also serve as tools for group cohesion and identity construction. The study investigates the factors that influence language use in these groups, including generational differences, regional dialects, and the impact of digital literacy. By providing an in-depth analysis of Facebook group discussions, the research seeks to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of how digital environments transform language practices in Nigeria (Chima, 2024).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the significance of Facebook groups in Nigerian online discourse, there is limited research on the specific language practices within these discussions. The complexity of language use, marked by code-switching and varied registers, has not been thoroughly analyzed. This research addresses the need for a detailed examination of how digital platforms influence language, contributing to gaps in sociolinguistic and communication studies. Without this analysis, insights into online identity construction and group dynamics remain incomplete (Olu, 2023).

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides an evaluation of language practices within Nigerian Facebook groups. The findings will offer insights into digital communication dynamics, informing sociolinguistic theories and practical communication strategies in online communities (Ibekwe, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to analyzing language use in Nigerian Facebook group discussions and does not extend to other digital platforms or offline contexts.
